Which Yoga Class Should You Choose? A Guide to the Different Types of Yoga at Every Body Studio

If you’re new to yoga, or even if you’ve practised before, choosing the right yoga class can feel confusing. Terms like Vinyasa, Dynamic, Restorative, or Flow can make it hard to know what a class will actually feel like.

At Every Body Studio in Oxford, we offer a variety of types of yoga designed to support different bodies, energy levels, and intentions. Some classes are energising and dynamic (you might even work up a bit of a sweat!), while others are slow, restful, and deeply calming.

If you’re wondering which yoga class is right for you, this short guide put together by our studio team will help you understand the different types of yoga we offer and what to expect from each one.

Vinyasa Yoga

Best for: people who enjoy movement, variety, and a flowing practice.

Vinyasa yoga is one of our most popular styles of yoga at the studio. The word vinyasa roughly translates to moving with breath, which means each movement flows into the next.

In a Vinyasa class at Every Body Studio, you can expect:

  • sequences that link movement and breath

  • a steady, rhythmic pace

  • a mixture of standing and floor-based poses

  • options to adapt the practice to suit your body and your needs

  • a closing moment of rest and reflection in Savasana

Our vinyasa classes often build warmth and energy in the body while helping you develop strength, mobility, and focus. Some teachers might also introduce an opening or closing pranayama (breathwork) practice or, they might invite you to move through some Sun Salutations, or even invite you to play with balancing asana. All before ending in a deeply restful Savasana.

Each of our studio teachers bring something unique and personal to their vinyasa classes.

Even though Vinyasa involves continuous movement, our teachers also offer modifications and options throughout, so you can move at a pace that feels supportive for you.

If you're looking for a balanced yoga class in Oxford that combines movement, breath, and mindfulness, Vinyasa can be a great place to start.

Our Dynamic Vinyasa classes are pretty much what the name suggests, a slightly more dynamic version of our usual Vinyasa classes! In these classes you might encounter more energising and physically challenging asana, helping you to explore your strength and resilience as you find your flow and strength together.

Dynamic Vinyasa is great for those looking for a bit of an extra challenge within their practice without losing that ‘traditional’ vinyasa feel of linking movement to breath.

Strong Flow

Best for: students who enjoy a more dynamic, strengthening practice.

Strong Flow is our more energising and physically challenging yoga class mostly taught by our studio teacher Sarah J. It builds on the flowing style of Vinyasa but with an emphasis on strength, stability, and endurance.

In a Strong Flow class, you might experience:

  • longer holds in strengthening poses

  • more challenging transitions

  • dynamic sequences that build heat in the body

  • opportunities to explore your strength and resilience

That said, yoga at Every Body Studio is never about pushing beyond your limits. Teachers always offer options to modify or rest, allowing you to meet the practice in a way that feels right for you.

Strong Flow can be particularly enjoyable if you like movement-based yoga classes that leave you feeling energised and strong.

Flow and Restore

Best for: people who want both movement and relaxation in the same class.

Flow to Restore offers the best of both worlds. Our flow to restore classes usually begin with gentle slow-flowing movement, often remaining close to the ground, before gradually transitioning into slower, more longer-held restorative postures.

A typical Flow to Restore class might include:

  • gentle flowing sequences to warm up the body

  • slower movement and longer holds

  • supportive restorative poses toward the end

  • time to settle into rest and stillness

Many students enjoy this class because it provides both movement and deep relaxation in a single session.

If you’re looking for a balanced yoga class in Oxford that helps you unwind after a busy day, Flow to Restore can be a lovely choice. It’s also a perfect option if you’re looking for a beginner yoga class in Oxford although yogis of all levels are always welcome in our classes.

Restorative Yoga

Best for: deep relaxation, stress relief, and nervous system support.

Restorative yoga is one of our most gentle and restful types of yoga on our weekly timetable. Rather than focusing on movement, the aim is to allow the body to fully relax and restore.

In a Restorative class, you can expect:

  • slow transitions between poses

  • supportive props like bolsters, blankets, and blocks

  • longer holds in comfortable positions

  • a quiet, calming atmosphere

These classes are designed to help the nervous system settle, making them particularly supportive if you’re feeling stressed or overwhelmed, physically tired or if your brain is a little bit louder than usual.

Many of our students find restorative yoga to be deeply nourishing and grounding, especially during busy periods of life.

If you're searching for gentle yoga or relaxing yoga classes in Oxford, Restorative yoga may be exactly what you need.

How to Choose the Right Yoga Class for You

When deciding which class to book, it can help to think about how you want to feel afterwards.

You might enjoy:

Vinyasa if you want

  • flowing movement

  • a steady pace

  • a balanced, energising class

Strong Flow if you want

  • an opportunity to explore an element of challenge in your practice

  • strength-building movement

  • an energising yoga class

Flow and Restore if you want

  • movement and relaxation

  • a gentle but balanced class

  • a softer pace

Restorative if you want

  • deep relaxation

  • stillness and rest

  • a very gentle, supportive practice

And remember, there’s no “perfect” choice and one type of yoga certainly isn’t better or more advanced than another! Many of our students enjoy trying a few different styles to discover what works best for them.

It may be some days you’re craving a deeply restful Restorative class, and the next week you’re looking to challenge yourself with our Strong Flow. That’s why we have so many different types of yoga to suit your changing needs, meeting you on the mat exactly where you are that day.
